How do I apply for an Auctioneer license?

Instructions below effective, July 1, 2019: 

Affiliate Auctioneer

Affiliate Auctioneer is any individual who, for compensation or valuable consideration, or otherwise, is employed, directly or indirectly, by an auctioneer to deal or engage in any auction activity.

To become an auctioneer, an applicant must first apply to become an affiliate or apply with a reciprocal license.  Applicant may begin the apprenticeship upon receipt of the license.

 The following steps must be taken in order to obtain an Affiliate Auctioneer license:

1. Application (CORE) 

2. Requirements 

a. Complete 50-hour approved auction education program and obtain education certificate

Sixteen (16) hours of Basic Fundamental Instruction

Thirty-four (34) hours of classroom or online instruction in the Fundamentals of Auctioneering

b. Exam Score Sheet

MUST complete and submit application to testing company (PSI) for the affiliate examination

After receiving notice that you have successfully completed the affiliate exam, remit the appropriate fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission

3. Fee, $225

 

Principal Auctioneer

A Principal Auctioneer is any individual who, for a fee, commission or any other valuable consideration, or with the intention or expectation of receiving a fee, commission or any other valuable consideration, by the means or process of auction or sale at auction, offers, negotiates or attempts to negotiate a listing contract, sale, purchase or exchange of goods.

To become an auctioneer, an applicant must first apply to become an affiliate or apply with a reciprocal license. You may begin practicing as an Auctioneer upon receipt of your license and proper affiliation with a licensed auction firm.

The following steps must be taken in order to obtain an Auctioneer license:

a. Completed Affiliate Auctioneer Log 

Apprenticeship of at least six (6) months under the supervision of a Tennessee licensed auctioneer. 

Obtain a minimum of 1,000 points in order to be eligible for an auctioneer license. This is the substantial equivalent of working five (5) auctions from beginning to end.

b. Thirty (30) Hour Qualifying Education Certificate

c. Exam Scores 

Retain a copy of the application for your records. Complete and Submit to Testing Facility (PSI):Register and schedule your examination with the PSI testing facility

d. Copy of High School School or GED Certificate 

3. Fee, $275 

a. Application Fee: $50.00

b. License Fee: $175
