How do I apply for a Land Surveyor license?

Once you have completed the pre-licensing coursework and requirements you can apply for a license online at core.tn.gov. The application fee is $200. 

I. Requirements

Satisfy one (1) of the following requirements related to education and experience:

A. Obtain a baccalaureate degree from a surveying or surveying technology curriculum of four (4) or more years, approved by the board;

B. Obtain a baccalaureate degree from a science, engineering or technology curriculum of four (4) or more years related to the practice of land surveying, approved by the board, with a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester hours of board-approved coursework in the surveying sciences;

C. Obtain a baccalaureate degree from a nonsurveying related curriculum of four (4) or more years, approved by the board, plus an additional thirty-six (36) semester hours of board-approved coursework in the surveying sciences;

D. Obtain an associate degree in surveying technology or a related science, engineering or technical field, approved by the board, with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of board-approved coursework in the surveying sciences, a record of four (4) years of progressive practical experience, two (2) years of which shall have been under the direct supervision of a practicing professional land surveyor; or

E. Obtain a high school education diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED®) with a record satisfactory to the board of ten (10) years of progressive practical experience, six (6) years of which shall have been under the direct supervision of a practicing professional land surveyor;

1. Initial Professional Land Surveyor Application [CORE]

2. Supporting Documents:

i. References

- 5 character references, 3 who are professional land surveyors or individuals acceptable to the board who have personal knowledge of the applicant's land surveying experience.

ii. Education 

- Proof of Education: A copy of a high school diploma or GED certificate; or a copy of an associate’s degree transcript along with a completed course reporting form; or a copy of a bachelor’s degree transcript along with a completed course reporting form.

iii. Completed Experience Verification Form

iv. Out of State Verification of Licensure/Examination Form if licensed in another state.

v. Survey Plats 

vi. Two boundary survey plats prepared by the applicant that meet Tennessee standards of practice accompanied by a property description of each survey, also written by the applicant.

vii. Firm Disclosure Form
